In our mixed age Saplings group, children will dive deep into investigations together. As teachers we will take note of what the children are exploring through their play and adventures. Overtime and through observation, teachers will identify particular project work that holds an interest for the entire group. These projects are often build around our day to day activities in the forest and what inspires the children. We give space to all types of learners and provide small group opportunities for children to develop their own voice, whether through movement, art mediums, discussion, song, etc. You can find an example of our first year project work here.

In addition to project work, children are given ample time and space to play, climb, run, hike, and explore our natural world. While our days are bookended with a morning and closing circle, children are given opportunities to choose how they sit/stand, and participate.

Our year ends with a graduation ceremony, in which all classes come together not only to celebrate those who are moving on from forest school, but all the amazing work and play each child has done over the year.
